    2012 Leadership Nomination Form

  • LAC Ministry Update
In the fall of last year, in a commitment to strengthening our ministries, the Ministry Council affirmed some changes. First, the Lake Avenue Community Foundation has secunded Mayra Nolan for the first six months of 2012 to provide leadership to LAC’s community outreach. Second, Pastor Greg Waybright will give overall oversight to the worship/arts ministries for the first half of 2012 and John Stothers will give full focus to the development of a more comprehensive ministry for our Saturday night service. And third, the Children’s and Student Ministries will combine together, with Pastor Jeff Mattesich serving as the associate pastor of this ministry. In this decision to combine the ministries, Pastor Tracy Trautman was offered a pastoral position in Children’s Ministries, but after much thought and prayer, there was a mutual recognition that this was not the right position for her. With this realization, Lake will be coming alongside her during this time of transition as she finishes her ministry at Lake at the end of January. Plans are underway for how we will express our deep gratitude to her. She will be greatly missed.

While Judaism and Christianity have long existed as two mutually exclusive religious entities, recent developments in theology, biblical studies and Jewish-Christian relations have contributed to an atmosphere of increasing reconciliation, partnership and mutual reappraisal. This 4-week series will explore the complex relationship between Judaism and Christianity throughout the centuries.  Topics covered will include: a brief history of modern Judaism, the emergence of Messianic Judaism, the rediscovery of the Jewishness of the New Testament, and the theological implications of the extraordinary events of our time. We are privileged to have Jen Rosner from the Messianic Jewish Theological Institute speak on the topic. She became a follower of Jesus during her last years of college, went on to earn her M.Div from Yale Divinity School and is finishing her doctoral dissertation at Fuller. All are welcome and no registration is needed! Barrickscar_640x446On a crisp November evening in 2006, Jen Barrick, at the age of 15, had just had the time of her life, singing in her choir as a blossoming, radiant young women. But in the blink of an eye everything changed for Jen and her entire family when a drunk driver struck their van. Jen suffered multiple skull fractures and severe brain trauma. The damage was tremendous, it didn't look like she was going to survive ... but against all odds, she did. A Night of Tragedy that ends with a Lifetime of Grace. To view a brief video clip, click on the link below:

JenBarrick_640x480"When Jesus said, 'out of you will flow streams of living water,' he made Jennifer a sparkling brook, filled to overflowing with His effervescent joy. Her life is such a stream of soul-satisfying encouragement to all those she meets, I am pleased to call her my friend. To spend time with Jennifer and her family is to come away truly refreshed and inspired." Joni Eareckson Tada

Japan Relief

  • Japan Relief Update
japan_relief_fund_150pCurrently LAC does not have any of our missionary families living in Japan, though a number have served there over the years. Utilizing these existing relationships, built over decades, we invite you to join us in giving a sacrificial gift to help both the relief and recovery phase. On April 8/9 we received a special offering which will be shared between World Vision, CRASH (a Japanese evangelical emergency aid alliance) and a group of churches in the hardest hit regions. Thus far we have received over $25,000 in total. We truly appreciate your generosity. We anticipate having opportunities for on-site volunteering in the months ahead. You may also give online anytime via our website at mylac.lakeave.org. (The Japan Relief Fund is available under the “Churchwide Funds” category under “Give” as soon as you log in.) For more information about what you can do, please contact the Global Outreach department at globaloutreach@lakeave.org or 626.844.4770.
