Maundy Thursday is the day in which Christians remember the Last Supper; the last meal that Jesus shared with his disciples. The word Maundy comes from the Latin, maundatum, which means "mandate." The connection of the word becomes clear when we read Jesus' actions and words to His disciples in John 13-17 . Within these five chapters, many things are spoken and revealed, including the celebration of the final Passover, Jesus' washing the disciples' feet, the celebration of communion, His foretelling of His own death, Jesus' loving prayer for His friends and for us, and His command to love one another.
Our Maundy Thursday Service is observed in homes, and led by you, our church families. This year, why not invite friends, neighbors or your small group over to your house, and host a meal and service, as we follow through our Maundy Thursday Guide. In the guide are ideas and instructions and even menu options. Everyone can participant with food or readings from the book of John. Take communion together, and reflect on Christ 's last words to His disciples. Guides will be available in the Worship Center and Chapel Lobbys, from literature racks around campus and online at the link to the right.
