Each year we have a wonderful opportunity to reach thousands of seniors who live in our local retirement and rest homes by showering them with flowers from the Rose Parade floats.
Lake Avenue volunteers collect unused flowers from Phoenix Decorating, who builds and decorates commercial floats featured in the parade. We then bundle them into small bouquets so these seniors can receive a moment of joy by seeing and feeling the flowers they saw on the floats on television up close.
Along with a visit and a gift of flowers, our volunteers also let the nursing home residents know that they’re special and Jesus loves them. Not only are the residents blessed, but those that help in this ministry are also receiving a great deal of joy and happiness from participating.
Last year the Lake Avenue Church family responded in a wonderful way, as more than 300 volunteers went out alone, as couples, families and small groups for this effort. They took more than 100,000 flowers to some 10,000 residents in 150 rest homes throughout the San Gabriel Valley. We cannot thank all of you enough for all the help you provided in taking prayers and flowers out to those who cannot get out.

PRESS RELEASE: Rose Parade Flowers to Rest Homes
Needs this Year
We need your help in all the phases of this ministry:
- Flowers are picked up from 8 to 11 pm on the evening of January 1 after the floats are moved out to the parade route. The buckets of flowers are loaded onto flatbed trucks and taken to the church parking garage.
- On January 2 from 11 am until 1 pm, we need help cutting and bundling the flowers for delivery.
- Also on January 2 from 1 to 4 pm or January 3 from 9 am to 1 pm the flowers are picked up and distributed to the Rest Homes.
- If there is a Rest Home you would like to deliver to, please write it on the sign up card and we will assign it to you.
Whichever day you can help, we will ask you to contribute only two- three hours of your time.
If you can join us in any of these opportunities, we invite you to participate. Please pray about the area in which you would like to help and then contact Keith Jesson by e-mail at krjesson@cs.com or call 626.627.5022. Let’s pray that God will be glorified through this special ministry of reaching out to our community.

I have been involved now for five years and to see the eyes light up of the seniors in beds or wheelchairs when they see us come with smiles and flowers lifts our spirits. The chain of blessing continues. Something only God can do!
