Valerie Coachman-Moore, owner of Pasadena organizational-development consulting firm, Coachman Moore & Associates, has been appointed executive director of Pasadena's Lake Avenue Community Foundation.

Coachman-Moore is taking over her new position with a mandate to implement the foundation's new three-year strategic plan -- to expand its work with children, youth and their families throughout the San Gabriel Valley, focusing on educational and social support for underserved populations. She will especially focus on increasing funding and enhancing partnerships. As a consultant during the development of the plan, Coachman-Moore is familiar with LACF's history and its role as a community leader.
Coachman-Moore said she is eager to work with LACF's "amazing and great people," and believes that increasing LACF's effectiveness and efficiency is especially important in light of the current difficult economy, with an increasing number of people needing help.

LACF is a faith-based organization modeling local community development. It makes long-term commitments to its students through a wide range of programs including its Student and Tutors Achieving Real Success (STARS), School Kredit in Learning Life Zones (SKILLZ) and mentoring programs. All LACF services help students excel academically and emotionally while addressing spiritual growth and economic stability. LACF collaborates with other organizations to leverage efforts and resources for low-income communities in the areas of housing, education, literacy and economic development. The Pasadena Unified School District is a primary partner.
