Hello parents and friends! I hope you're well. Here's what we have going this week:
THIS PAST SUNDAY we split the girls and guys into separate rooms, and had a chance to talk more frankly and openly about love, sex, and dating issues. With the guys, Perry Hawkins (from Jr High) and I discussed Deuteronomy 6, and a way of living where loving God with all our heart, soul, and strength comes out in all we do - including the way we approach love, sex, and dating. Annie McLaren (Jr High) and Liz Lin (HS) encouraged the girls to deveop a fuller understanding of all that God has done for us, and let our gratitude shape our approach to love, sex, and dating. Following up might simply look like asking your student what they heard, what stood out, how they've seen love/sex/dating go well or go poorly... things like that.
PARENT TRAINING MEETING is this Sunday, please come! Dr Kara Powell will be leading us in a seminar called Talking to Your Kids About Sex. 9-10:30a in the Jr High Room (FL 30). Love to have you join us.
LIVING ROOM is this week. On Wednesday we're at the Gibsons (1395 S Los Robles), and on Thursday we're at the Jenks (333 Linda Vista Ave). We'll have dinner, a Bible study out of Ecclesiastes, and a great time together.
LIFE GROUPS meet next week. If your student is in a Life Group, be sure to verify time/place for meeting. If they would like to join, just let me know and we'll get the ball rolling.
SPRING RETREATS are April 20-22. Guys are going to Carpinteria State Beach for some camping, gals are going to a house in Newport. Cost is $75, space is limited, so sign up soon!
DETROIT 2012 is our summer missions & service trip. We'll be there from July 17-24, and we need deposits by April 1 and no later than April 15. Projected final cost will be about $600, and no greater than $650. This about $200 less than our trip last year. Let me know if you have questions, I'd love to talk more about this amazing experience.
TRANSITIONS RETREAT is July 13-15, cost $100, for graduating seniors and incoming ninth-graders. We'll go to a ranch in Hemet and encounter God together about what the next season may hold.
URBANA 2012 is InterVarsity Christian Fellowships triennial missions conference, and it is amazing. If your student will be 17 years old by December 1, I urge you to consider sending them. We can help. https://urbana.org/
There are a few Urbana 2012 videos that are pretty cool, and they tell the story of what Urbana is about. Here's one that's worth showing to students to get them thinking about whether this is an opportunity worth taking:
