Advent teaching series 2015

The Songs of Christmas
with Senior Pastor Greg Waybright

It is almost impossible to overstate the importance that music has played in the worship life of churches all over the world – and throughout history. And, without question, the songs of the Christmas Season have been among the most beloved and inspiring of all. They certainly are for me. I begin singing them on the day after Thanksgiving and don’t stop until the Rose Parade has begun!

Advent2015 final 390x240pxWith that in mind, I don’t suppose that we should be surprised when we read Luke reporting that the first Christmas was filled with song. Four songs from four different sources are recorded in his account of the first Christmas showing us that the tradition of singing at Christmastime is as old as Christmas itself. At the time, the greatest event in the history of the world was inaugurated. The Son of God came into this world. The only appropriate way to respond to such an event is to sing.

Each of the songs in our advent teaching series is occasioned by a different issue. The life-situations the singers sing about in Luke 1-2 continue to be relevant to life today.
