friday pastor’s update
March 11, 2022

Dear ,

Today's message comes from Pastor Scott White who has a robust update to share in the Life of Lake.

We hope you have heard by now, Lake has officially called Pastor Mathew P. John to become the next Senior Pastor Candidate. We have a number of opportunities to pray and get to know Pastor Mathew and his family. Next Wednesday, March 16, we will have an Evening of Prayer and Discerning at 7 pm in HH 400 (Skyroom). Then, on Thursday and Saturday, we offer two Fireside Chats in FL 201-203 (Rose Room) where you can meet Pastor Mathew and his wife, Joanne, and get to know them better. All details are provided in the video and the ads below. Then, next Sunday, March 20, immediately after the service, we will meet at a Special Congregational Meeting at 11 am in the Worship Center and online, to call for the vote. There will be a two-day opportunity to vote in-person and online. For all the details visit https://www.lakeave.org/splu

Last Sunday, March 6, we held our Winter Congregational Meeting and voted on a temporary Bylaw amendment. Active members submitted 204 ballots with 179 affirming the amendment, 22 opposing, and three ballots abstaining. You can watch the recording at https://www.lakeave.org/leadership

Our Serve Day at Blair High School will be taking place next Saturday, March 19, from 8:30 am to 1 pm. For all the details, visit the information below or visit our website by searching keyword: serveblair

Moving forward into April 1 & 2, Pastor Jeanine Smith will offer a special two-day prayer seminar titled "The Unanswered Prayers Course.” This will be a five-hour course where we will get to dig deep into the scriptures to gain a deeper understanding of hard questions such as, “Why do my prayers seem like they aren’t working?” To find answers to these questions and more register online, keyword: unansweredprayer

Moving even further forward, we are talking about our all-church Memorial Day Camp at Green Oak Ranch? Why, because in order for us to continue this tradition, we need to meet our minimum number of participants by April 10. If we don’t have enough sign-ups by April 10, we will have no choice but to cancel and give up our Memorial Day weekend tradition. Last year at the ranch was amazing, but between our donation in 2020 to help keep Green Oak Ranch from closing down and last year’s numbers being lower, we used our entire emergency fund. Therefore, we ask you to please sign up and pay using discount code: go2022 before April 10 to receive 25% off your entire order – and to ensure the Green Oak Family Camp happens this year and for years to come. For all the details visit https://www.lakeave.org/greenoak

For more information about other ministry opportunities, see the ads below and visit https://www.lakeave.org/events

Join us this Sunday for part three of our Lenten Series with Pastor Chuck Hunt at 9:30 am in-person, on YouTube, Facebook, or our homepage. We hope you have a blessed and safe weekend and hope to see you on Sunday.

His Words Lent Teaching Series

“HIS WORDS” LENTEN TEACHING & DEVOTIONAL SERIES

March 2 - April 17

Join us this Lenten season as we submit ourselves to the words of Jesus in the book of Matthew. In our sermon series, “His Words: Practicing the Transforming Words of Jesus,” we will talk about what it means to follow Jesus, living a life of humility and self-sacrifice. Jesus calls us in the book of Matthew to repent, to follow Him, to forgive our neighbors. He proclaims that the blind receive sight and the dead are raised, and says that if we want to be great we must become servants. Jesus, the Word of God, spoke words of comfort, words of instruction, words of love. And He still speaks today through the power of the Holy Spirit. Come join us this Lent as we put into practice the transforming words of Jesus from the book of Matthew.

The Unanswered Prayer Course

THE UNANSWERED PRAYER COURSE

Friday, April 1, from 7 pm - 9:15 pm and
Saturday, April 2, from 9 am - 12:15 pm
FL 201-203 (Rose Room)

Together, we will take an honest look at the hard and personal questions we all ask related to our unanswered prayers:

  • Why do my prayers seem like they aren't working?
  • Where is God in the silence and waiting?
  • How do we get through hard times?
  • When will our prayers be answered?

Our course time will be spent learning, engaging in Scripture, small group discussion, and prayer. The course material is based on the book, “God on Mute,” by Pete Grieg. In-person attendance is encouraged, but a Zoom option is available. To find the answers, we will seek out Jesus and focus on his journey from the Garden of Gethsemane, to the cross, and ultimately the resurrection. RSVP - here.
