HEADING INTO THE HOLIDAYS

Dear ,

It's hard to believe that we are already mid-way through Fall and anticipating Advent and Christmas. The shift of season from summer to winter is always about change, and so does our LAC Community is experiencing transition along with the season.

This November we have a number of opportunities for you to participate in and be a part of. Whether it is through your presence in worship, prayer, your service and care for others - our community needs you.

First, tomorrow, in addition to our Women's Ministries Fall half-day Retreat, we hope you will consider joining us at our monthly Day of Prayer that takes place on campus throughout the day. At 5:30 pm we will host our communal Prayer Gathering in the Chapel for anyone who simply wants to be together and share and pray.

On Sunday, though Christmas seems to be quite a ways away, we will begin our partnership with two local charities: Angel Tree and Elizabeth House Adopt-a-Family giving campaigns.

New this year is Elizabeth House's Adopt-a-Family, which provides gift cards to women and children in need this Christmas. Simply buy a $25 Target child gift cards and/or $100 Ralph’s gift cards and return to them to their table in the Lobby starting this Sunday, November 6 through November 20.

Angel Tree supports families impacted by incarceration by allowing us the opportunity to pick up an Angel Tree tag from the Lobby next Sunday, November 13, and then bring back a gift the following Sunday, November 20. There are other ways you can help as well by volunteering your time to help with deliveries.

Next Sunday will also mark the last worship service for both Pastors Jeanine Smith and Chuck Hunt. For more information about this transition please see the all-church November Leadership Update that was sent out earlier today - available here. Following the service, there will be a time of extended "Thank you Pastors! Open House" gathering at 11 am in HH 400 (Skyroom). A light reception will be served. Your thank-you cards and e-mails will be most appreciated - but your presence will be the best gift they hope for.

Next Saturday we will also host our annual Veteran's Day Breakfast where men and women from all of our armed forces and active duty service personnel, veterans, first responders, and their families, friends, and supporters are invited to join us for a special breakfast and time of gathering. The cost is $15 per person and the deadline is this Sunday, November 6.

As we approach Thanksgiving and the hope of fellowship with family and friends we are aware that some may not be so fortunate. On Sunday, November 20, the Lake Choir will prepare a meal for those in the community and our LAC family who are in need at a special Community Thanksgiving Dinner at 5 pm in HH 400 (Skyroom). This fabulous traditional Thanksgiving dinner will include turkey and all the fixings, including stuffing, salad, and all the traditional sides like cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, pumpkin pie, and more. A short concert will also be given by the choir before dinner begins. Simply RSVP by Sunday, November 13 to let us know how many will attend.

Finally, on Sunday, November 27, we begin the season of Advent with a new teaching series and Advent Devotional created by writers and artists from our own LAC Family. To prepare ourselves for this holy season, we will make the Advent Devotionals available for pickup in the Lobby starting next Sunday, November 13 and throughout the season. It will also be available as a digital download directly from our website at www.lakeave.org/christmas.

AdventDevotionalGuide 2022

There is much more to share that would make this edition longer than you probably care to read including our College & Young Adults Exhale Winter Retreat, Family Advent Party, our Worship Drop-in Choir, Christmas Greens purchase, Messiah Sing Along Concert and more. For these opportunities, simply visit www.lakeave.org/events and pick up a copy of our November LakeAveNews monthly publication available this Sunday as you enter to worship and as a digital download here.

We hope that you will join us this Sunday at 9:30 am in the Worship Center or online. We can’t wait to see you and be together.
