“You’re blessed when you can show people how to cooperate instead of compete or fight. That’s when you discover who you really are, and your place in God’s family” Matthew 5:9
LAC Families -
Blessed are the Peacemakers! I have always loved this verse. I have not always known what peacemaking means. My early perceptions of being a peacemaker was of peaceful people, living out their peaceful lives in the midst of chaos. Though that may happen in our communities, friendships and families, it rarely leads to actual peace. Peace like love is a state of relationship that is intentional, consistent, and hard fought for most. Many times, it requires confrontation. Biblical confrontation is always done out of obedience to love and for the benefit of relationship. Confronting biblically is not so that my needs are met but rather so the relationship is centered. I have to put my own desires on the table alongside the intentions of others. I have to first examine myself and my motives. If I truly care about and love the other person more than I love myself then confrontation will be about something bigger than either one of us. Biblical confrontation asks me to check myself and see if I am working for God’s family and my place in it.
As we walk into this new year and into the rest of this school year our families need to be better at creating peace. We have enough stress and strife and our responsibility as Gods people, as parents is to lead, teach, and embody what God wants for our community and families. Here are two resources that can be helpful for you:
WE ARE FAMILY!! And we are starting something new for this year. One of the things that our staff has missed in quarantine is getting to bump into and meet others that are worshipping alongside of you. So, we thought we would do something fun to help us remember who we are. This videos series is designed to introduce you to the larger Lake community and remind you that you belong. You already scroll enough on social media, take a few minutes and meet some people in your community. These videos will come out once a month during 2021.
We have made the decision to send Newsletters twice a month as opposed to every week. In the beginning of quarantine, it felt necessary to offer significant information and encouragement as we all shifted to a new reality. Now that we have settled into some routines it feels as though that information is not as urgent. We will send out a letter on the first and third Friday of each month. As always if you need resources or just a conversation, I am just a phone call/email away.
