Dr. David Gyertson is Headmaster of Maranatha High School in Pasadena, CA. Prior to coming to Maranatha he served as Distinguished Professor of Leadership Formation and Renewal at Regent University in Virginia. He was a founding team member of the University in 1977 and returned as President in 1990. He holds a Ph.D. from Michigan State University with a concentration in higher education administration and management.
David also is a Senior Fellow with the Engstrom Institute of the Christian Leadership Alliance with a special research and consulting focus in Executive Leadership for Nonprofit organizations. In addition he serves as a Senior Fellow for the Council for Christian Colleges and University in Washington, D.C.
Gyertson has a broad and varied background in higher education, publishing, consulting, executive coaching, ministry and media. He has held senior leadership positions in religious, charitable and business environments, including international and cross-cultural settings.
Dr. Gyertson served as President of Regent University, as well as Asbury University (Kentucky) and Taylor University (Indiana). He is an ordained minister having served senior pastoral positions in Methodist and Presbyterian settings. David previously worked for the Christian Broadcasting Network hosting the daily radio version of the 700 Club "On-the-Line" and serving for several years as the host and executive producer of the weekly "Canadian Edition" broadcast of the 700 Club.
Gyertson is published widely in the fields of applied theology, colonial and church history, higher education and leadership studies. "Faithful Stewards: Board Governance Principles and Practices for Faith-Based Nonprofits" was published in 2011 and is used extensively for Board training with Crisis Pregnancy Centers and other faith-based nonprofits. His chapter "Christian Leadership and the Identity and Mission of an Organization" was published by B & H Publishers (Nashville 2011) in "Christian Leadership Essentials". Dr. Gyertson also was the senior editor for "Nonprofit Leadership in a For-profit World (Standard Publishing 2011) which chronicles the reflections of Christian leaders on the most important lessons they desire to pass on to the next generation. He currently is working on a revision of "Presidential Transitions for Private Colleges and Universities" jointly published by the Council of Independent Colleges and the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities in Washington, DC. David edited several projects for CBN Publishing including the "Operation Good Shepherd" series, "Foundations of the Faith" and the twenty volume "Living by the Book" series.
David's wife Nancy is a retired elementary school teacher. Their daughter Andrea, who lives in Burbank CA, is a script writer whose movie credits included "What If", "Christmas with a Capital C", "Escape" and "Christmas Angel". Their son-in-law Brady is a Producer/Director for Sodium Entertainment. David & Nancy have two grand children.
