Read Ruth 1:1-14 and summarize what has happened up until this point in the narrative.
Naomi urges Ruth to follow Orpah’s example and return home to Moab in verse 15. Why? What are the dangers Ruth might face if she goes with Naomi to Judah? Put yourself into Ruth’s shoes. What would you have done?
What was the relationship between Israel and Moab? (See Judges 3:12-14 and Deut. 23:3-6 for more insight.) How does this increase the significance of Ruth’s words of commitment in verses 16-17?
