Jesus says in verse 14 that the world has hated the disciples. What is “the world” that Jesus is talking about here, and why did this world hate them? How does “the world” feel about Christians today? What should be our prayer and posture, knowing that we might be hated?
What does it mean to be “not of this world” (vs. 14, 16)? How and why do we stray into “worldly” living and mindsets? What helps you to remain connected to Jesus as you are still in this world?
Jesus prays in verse 15 that the Father would protect us from the evil one. In what ways do you need this protection?
What does it mean to be sanctified by the truth (vs. 17)? How is God’s word changing and shaping you these days?
Jesus says in verse 18, “As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world.” In what ways did the Father “send” Jesus into the world? How does that shape our understanding of being “sent” by Jesus into the world? Where might God be sending you in this next season? What is one action or posture you can take this week to fulfill this calling to be God’s “sent ones”?
