Subversive Witness: Summer Book Study

This past February the Racial Reconciliation Ministry Team (RRMT) partnered with the Bereans class to do a mini-series based on the book “Subversive Witness” by Dominique Dubois Gilliard. You may recall Pastor Gilliard preached for LAC on March 25, 2022. The series was really well received, as attendees commented, it was “wise teaching” (Arlene Wood), “powerful” (Kathy Hollimon), and “solid Biblical teaching, great personal stories." "We have a lot to think about” (Kent Estes).

Now the RRMT would like to invite the whole congregation to join in this learning opportunity. The LAC staff will be studying this book this summer, and we would like to give everyone else a chance to. We can dive deeper together into Scripture’s call regarding racial reconciliation in a short-term book study during the month of June.

Each week a different pastor will lead us (Jeanine Smith, Scott White, Annie Neufeld, Beth Paz, and Chuck Hunt) and then we will spend time in dialogue in small groups. Together, we will learn from Pharaoh’s daughter, Moses, Esther, Zacchaeus, Paul, Silas, and Jesus to resist sin, grow in solidarity with those that have been marginalized, love our neighbors sacrificially, and create systemic transformation. Ultimately, we will learn to use what we have been given to proclaim the good news of Jesus.

The book study is the five Wednesdays from 7–8:30 pm, both in-person and Zoom, starting June 1, 2022. The cost is FREE, but you will need to purchase the book in advance and begin reading chapters 2 and 4.

The book is available today in the Worship Center Lobby for $12 or you may purchase it on Amazon. Sign up for Subversive Witness Book Study Here.
