Each year at this time we recognize the anniversary of the Roe vs. Wade decision, a "choice" of those responsible for our laws, that I believe, has led to millions of immoral and irreversible decisions.While it may seem to many people that the change in our culture and its laws are irreversible, we on the Health Services Team of Lake Avenue Community Foundation would like to broaden the focus from the impact of current events, though we fully advocate your education and citizen involvement. The recent teachings by our pastor in the Advent Season brought us lessons on God's perspective on sanctity of life:
- Consider Mary's trusting response to the new life that God entrusted to her and the potential that life promised for mankind.
- Wonder at the joyful response of the unborn John the Baptist, leaping in Elizabeth's womb through the moving of the Spirit of God at the presence of the mother of our Lord.
- Recall that the Gospel's "center of gravity" announced by the angels was not in the halls of earthly power but at the point of need of lowly souls.
- Ponder the patience of God in bringing circumstances together, regardless of the condition of the world or the values of the culture - a baby, Babe of Bethlehem becoming, 33 years later, the Bridge between God and man.
I believe that the trust, compassion and patience exhibited by our loving Creator in the nativity narrative resonates through history and is sufficient to meet our own needs today, even in the midst of a crisis pregnancy.
God's concerns for each and every one of us, from before we were born, is reflected in the loving care provided to women in the midst of unplanned or unwanted pregnancies at Living Well Pregnancy Center, whose focus is helping woman as well as preserving the life of the unborn child. Living Well Pregnancy Center provides a safe place for women to talk about their situation, their feelings, and any medical questions or concerns.
