Communications Coordinator/Graphic Design

Lake Avenue Church seeks a full-time Communications Coordinator to assist the Director of Communications with communication/marketing materials that promote, enhance and market the mission, values and goals of Lake Avenue Church. The Coordinator ensures the Communications office run smoothly and helps to convey the overall operations and ministry of Lake Avenue Church. The Coordinator works with staff, lay leaders, and volunteers. This graphic design position requires expert knowledge and usage of Adobe InDesign or Quark Xpress and proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Provide innovative design solutions across all mediums including print, digital, social media and emerging new media platforms that are wholly in the Lake Avenue Church voice and reinforce our department objectives and goals.
  • Stay aware of marketing and design trends including typography and photography.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the creative and technical process and an expert knowledge of current software.
  • Communicate effectively with all levels of the department, including preparing for presentations as needed.
  • Maintain and archive all project files on mac-based server to ensure that they are accessible and useable by other designers and animators.
  • Gather, edit, coordinate, organize media collateral as needed (images, audio, video, texts)
  • Organize production schedules for assigned marketing campaigns and projects; prioritize them in order to meet all deadlines
  • Produce weekly communication pieces
  • Proofread and write copy

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Excellent Macintosh computer skills, including a thorough understanding of graphics applications: Adobe InDesign CS6 (or Quark Xpress); proficient in Adobe Photoshop CS6 and Adobe Illustrator CS6
  • Expert knowledge digital layout software, illustration and photo editing and manipulation
  • Organized and detail oriented; able to write, proof-read, excellent grammar skills, good spell-checking habits
  • " Demonstrated ability to conceptualize and execute marketing/communications campaigns across multiple mediums
  • Confidence to take the lead on projects and work independently as needed
  • Ability to take direction, ask questions, problem-solve, manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines
  • Able to execute a project from start to finish: from sketches & concept iteration to delivery of a final product along with the appropriate versioning
  • Creative thinker who can solve complex design challenges and develop compelling, original designs that are within Lake standards and brand identity
  • Able to work closely and collaboratively with a dynamic, multi-disciplinary Creative Team comprised of a Team Leader, Art Directors, Designers, Writer/Producers and Project Managers/Coordinators/Admins (no pride in sole authorship)
  • Comfortable presenting/proposing ideas, taking direction, participating in internal brainstorming sessions with other Team members, working closely with Project Managers in order to deliver projects on time and on budget, prioritizing workload, and managing multiple projects efficiently.
  • Must be able to work a regular work week and willing to work late some nights and weekends, as needed

Education and Experience

Any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical example of this would be:

  • Undergraduate degree (Associate or Bachelor) in Fine Arts, Graphic Design, Film, Communications, Marketing or comparable portfolio and experience.
  • 1-2 years experience in graphic design

This is an entry-level position and is full-time (40 hours per week) with benefits.

Senior Ministry Coordinator

Lake Avenue Church seeks a part-time (20 hours per week) Senior Ministry Coordinator to provide organization, spiritual, visionary, team-based support to Senior Ministry (55+) as a whole, while overseeing and managing a team of volunteers.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Facilitate ministry structures and relationships that result in seniors being connected with Lake Avenue Church and mobilized for greater engagement
  • Minister through existing senior communities at Lake Avenue Church, reaching out to seniors in these communities and be available for up front ministry opportunities
  • In conjunction with lay leaders, coordinate three Senior Luncheons per year, and leverage these events for spiritual growth, relationship building, and ministry opportunities for seniors
  • Working with lay leaders, provide opportunities for seniors to engage in the following five areas: Social, Financial, Soul Care, Health, and Spiritual Formation
  • Actively partner with the Second Half Cabinet of the Adult Ministry Division
  • Be aware of and collaborate when appropriate with the Memorial Coordinator and pastors performing memorial services for Lake Avenue Church members
  • Keep an accurate and updated database of senior adults at Lake Avenue Church

Individuals best suited for this position will have:

  • Exceptional interpersonal, administrative, organizational, communication, and time management skills necessary to lead this ministry
  • Capacity to develop and implement effective, innovative, and relevant strategy and ministry
  • Demonstrated ability to recruit and manage volunteers to join in the ministry
  • Cultural competence to work in a multicultural, multiethnic context circumstances and ethnic backgrounds
  • High level of personal integrity, self-motivation and evidence of desire for excellence
  • Demonstrate a courteous and Christ-like manner with internal and external partners
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a department with ten other staff members
  • Exhibit proficiency with computers and software applications, especially Microsoft Office365, Word and Excel

Education and experience:

Bachelor’s Degree and some graduate coursework in a relevant field (theology, biblical studies, pastoral studies, spiritual formation, psychology, etc.) Completed graduate degree a plus, but not required.

Must have 2-3 years’ experience in ministry and proven track record of giving leadership to a ministry.

This part-time position is located within Adult Ministries department of Lake Avenue Church and reports to the Pastor of Congregational Care. This position is classified as non-exempt and includes evening and weekend hours. This part-time position does not include benefits.
