Early Elementary (K-3) Ministry Coordinator

Lake Avenue Church seeks an Early Elementary Ministry Coordinator to provide direction and leadership to the program serving children (Kindergarten through 3rd Grade), their families, and volunteers.

With a team of about 20-25 volunteers and one part-time staff, Early Elementary ministers to roughly 100 children each weekend. We are seeking an individual who is passionate about ministering to children and their families by serving in a large church.

Individuals best suited for this position will have:

  • A passion for ministering to children and families
  • Effective people skills / strong interpersonal communication - especially as a listener
  • Experience managing a large group of children
  • A desire to engage and serve those in the neighborhood surrounding Lake Avenue Church
  • Must be flexible and have the ability to ‘shift gears’ several times throughout the day
  • Ability to work independently, but take instruction on overall expectations for the ministry
  • Awareness and sensitivity to children and families from diverse backgrounds and experiences
  • Must have a heart for the ministry and people of Lake Avenue Church
  • Most importantly, a thriving and growing relationship with Jesus Christ


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Relationships and communication with volunteers
  • Plan and organize a worship experience with volunteer help
  • Form relationships with students and families
  • Be on a rotating schedule for teaching large group bible lessons
  • Organize supplies and materials
  • Plan activities and crafts that correlate with weekly lessons
  • Lead one support staff
  • Create a welcoming environment on a Sunday morning
  • Communicate with parents via phone, email, newsletters, fliers, website, and social media
  • Assist in planning family events and gatherings
  • Assist leading and mentoring summer interns
  • Help facilitate a VBS program for over 400 children
  • Recruit, care for and support volunteers
  • Lead, encourage and mentor teen volunteers

Education and experience:

Any combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical example of this would be: Bachelor''s degree in Education, Christian Ministries, or a related field and 2+ years recent experience working with children and families in a ministry context.

This position is 30 hours per week; includes weekends and evening hours; is classified as full-time, non-exempt, and includes benefits.

Early Elementary (K-3) Ministry Assistant

Lake Avenue Church seeks a part-time Early Elementary Ministry Assistant (Kindergarten through 3rd Grade) to welcome families and assist them with the check in process for weekend worship services. The Ministry Assistant provides organization of lesson materials and is responsible for facilitating / hosting the Sunday morning worship experience with the aid of 20-25 volunteers.

Individuals best suited for this position will have:

  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills, good verbal and written communication skills
  • Great team-player with strong interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrate an ability to willingness to grow in caring for a team of volunteers
  • Must be flexible and have the ability to ‘shift gears’ several times throughout the day
  • Ability to work independently, but take instruction on overall expectations
  • Demonstrated ability to manage a group of 25-30 children
  • Must have a heart for the ministry and people of Lake Avenue Church A thriving and growing relationship with Jesus Christ

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Welcoming and assisting families with check-in on Sunday mornings
  • Demonstrate ability in scheduling and communication with volunteers on Sunday; provide leadership, coaching, care and support for this team
  • Host the kids worship experience on Sunday mornings – this includes being the emcee, gathering kids, etc.
  • Help with administrative tasks related to the check-in system, calling new families, and supply organization
  • Be present in the office one day a week to assist the department with Sunday lesson preparation

Pastor/Director of Middle School Ministries

The Pastor/Director of Middle School Ministry recruits, develops, and provides leadership for the volunteers whose ultimate mission is helping middle school students follow Jesus. They will be responsible for the discipleship of middle school students connected to the ministry through worship and life groups. The Pastor/Director of Middle School Ministry partners with the rest of the Family Ministry team in order to provide support and leadership to all areas of Family Ministries.

Lake Ave Church is looking for a candidate who is spiritually passionate, is experienced with and values diversity, is relational, honest and vulnerable, leads well, deeply knows middle schoolers, builds great volunteer teams, and is fun. We are looking for someone to lead for the long term. With our diverse student group, it is critical that our Middle School Pastor/Director relates well to diverse groups ethnically, socio-economically, and culturally. Important to this position are the following:

  • The Pastor/Director is part of a team, reporting to the Associate Pastor of Family Ministries, and working alongside ministry leaders in Early Childhood, Elementary, High School, and College.
  • The Pastor/Director supervises one ministry associate, and oversees a large team of volunteers.
  • The Pastor/Director functions as part of the pastoral team of the church.
  • The Pastor/Director connects and communicates well with the parents of students.

There are also areas that make this position unique. Middle School ministry is a healthy and vibrant part of our church yet there is a significant opportunity for new energy and growth. There is no expectation that one would just come in and manage that which is happening but provide vision and direction that is integrated with the whole of ministry. 

Lake Ave Church is in the midst of a Senior Pastor transition. We are currently looking for a new Senior leader and are excited about the possibilities of the coming season. These present both opportunities and challenges, however the Middle School Ministry has great strength in its paid and volunteer staff, we also have a significant engagement with students, families and the church at large. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years of professional youth ministry experience partnering and communicating with parents, recruiting, training and retaining great volunteer teams, organizing and leading in the larger church context (not just youth ministry).

Director of Young Adult Ministries

The Director of Young Adult Ministry is responsible for leading ministry both for and with young adults (college age to 30+). They will design, implement and direct programming for the ministry that will encourage personal Christian discipleship, as well as foster a sense of belonging to one another, and the wider church, and encourage leadership and service of young adults throughout the church. They will also be part of the leadership team for our Sunday Night Worship Service seeking to enhance this worship experience for Young Adults. The Director of Young Adult Ministry will partner with the rest of the Adult Ministry team in order to provide support and leadership to all areas of Adult Ministries.

We are looking for someone to lead for the long term and our ideal candidate will have a minimum of three years of professional student or young adult ministry experience. With our diversity of young adults, it is critical that our Director relates well to diverse groups ethnically, socio-economically, and culturally. With our small young adult ministry, it will be essential that our Director be warm and relationally engaging. Lastly, our young adult ministry is ready for new energy and vision, and will be served well with a person with initiative and creativity.

Important to this position are the following:

The Director is part of a team, reporting to the Associate Pastor of Adult Ministries, and will need to collaborate with several other Adult ministries, including small group ministry, men’s and women’s ministry, prayer ministry, connecting ministry and more.

  • The Director also will collaborate with individuals from the the worship, family and outreach departments.
  • The Director supervises one ministry associate, and recruits older adults to invest in the program through mentoring.
  • The Director functions as part of the pastoral team of the larger church.
